Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect when booking a session?
The first step is to reach out through the ‘book now’ button, sending an email or contact through the website. Once you have done that, we can set up a free 15 minute consultation to discuss what you are looking for, any questions you may have and seeing if the dynamic will be a good fit. If you prefer to book an initial session instead, we can do that and discuss all the same things in more detail - the first session is always a getting to know you session and understanding what you want to experience or gain in therapy. After that, we can book out regular session times to continue working towards goals or discussing concerns and finding new ways to understand yourself, emotions and building healthier ways of dealing with big moments in life.
How do I know the therapist is right for me?
Booking a 15 minute consultation is beneficial to get a feel for the therapist and to see if you feel you would enjoy working with the therapist. You are able to ask different questions and check in with how you feel you would work with them. Also, if you are ever feeling concerns that it isn’t the right fit, I always encourage the individual to share this with the therapist and have an open conversation of what they hope for in therapy. If the therapist can’t meet that need or expecation, referrals are possible to help you have the right fit on your therapeutic journey.
If a session time isn’t available or doesn’t work for my schedule, what should I do?
I can be fairly flexible with scheduling, so please reach out directly at chelsea@thewanderingmindcounselling.com and I will do my best to accomodate your needs
How often should I attend therapy?
This is up to the client, what they are able to afford and what they need. Every client and individual are different and we will create a plan that works for you - but please know this plan is always flexible and can be changed as needed!
What is the cancellation policy?
There is a 48 hour cancellation policy and sessions must be cancelled within this time frame or a cancellation charge will be applied. No-shows are billed for the full session fee as well. We understand that life happens and emergencies or extenuating circumstances can arise and this will be discussed with the individual on a case by case basis.
Are there sliding scale options available?
Yes there are limited sliding scale options available. Sliding scale is based on financial needs of the client which can be discussed during a 15 minute consultation call or during any ongoing sessions if concerns arise. Finances can be a touchy subject for many, but please be honest with your therapist about your needs and understand that this is always an ongoing discussion if needed!
Why does therapy have a high cost?
Therapy costs might seem high, but the fee for a 50-minute session also covers the therapist’s work outside the session (research, planning, and training), plus business expenses such as rent, taxes, health care, and supplies. If you have questions, feel free to ask your therapist!
Behind the scenes, therapy involves trained professionals spending years mastering the art of human brains and emotions.
It’s not just “talking” — it’s custom-fitting strategies to untangle life’s knots, backed by ongoing education and clinical supervision. Plus, therapists often dedicate long hours preparing sessions, managing paperwork, and staying up-to-date with the latest in mental health science all while running a business.
Add to that the need for a private, safe space to chat openly, and you’ve got a service that requires serious time, skill, and care — all of which come with a cost. Therapy is an investment in yourself, your well-being, and your future balance.
